Every school day, Killeen ISD buses travel more than 19,000 miles to get students safely to and from school. This year, a new state law is helping make those rides even safer.
Senate Bill 546, which went into effect Sept. 1, 2025, requires students to wear seat belts whenever they are riding on a bus that is equipped with them.
“Our goal is simple — every bus ride should be safe,” said Myron Wilson, KISD Executive Director of Transportation. “The new law requires students to wear seat belts when they’re available, and doing so helps protect them while also making every ride safer for everyone.”
Wilson encourages families to help reinforce the new law by talking with their children about the importance of buckling up.
“We’re asking families to remind their children to buckle up,” Wilson said. “Wearing a seat belt is a small step that makes a big difference in keeping students safe.”
